3 Date Night Looks for Valentine/ Galentine's Day

Sustainable Styling Valentine's Galentines Day

I'll admit my hubby and I are hopeless romantics and like to celebrate  Valentine's Day . But it's not everyone's cup of tea. Yes, it's a marketing ploy to spend money, which is why I totally understand that some people don’t like partaking in it. Real love is not quantified by gifts and flowers but through deep emotional feelings, connections and trust. In saying that, my insta-hubby did buy me these red roses as A “gift of love” and also for this blog lol.

Traditional marketing campaigns for Valentine’s Day have reinforced unhealthy social norms i.e. that you need a partner to live "happily ever after" so I’m over the moon that "Galentine's Day" has come along to put this one to rest. After all it's just another day and no one should have to spend a cent or be excluded from it. Like all days we should use February the 14th as an opportunity to create wonderful memories.

As a yoga teacher and stylist, I'm a strong advocate for self love and think Valentine's /Galentine's Day can serve as a good reminder to give yourself some love and tell someone/s special (living or deceased) how much you love them.

For those who are celebrating the day with a night out either on your own, with the girls or a love one, I've put together 3 favourite looks for 3 different rendezvous. I have combined existing pieces with current products from some of my favourite local stockists.

1. Date Night | Little local

There is nothing like taking a short walk or car ride to your little local any night of the week to grab a sneaky glass of bubbles or your favourite craft beer. Valentine's Day is no exception. Celebrating the day at your "little local" is a great way to enjoy a date without all the fuss of having to get dressed up. Many local bars have a smart casual dress code, giving you lots of style choices. Normally jeans would be my first choice but since Valentine's Day falls in the hottest month of the year where I live, they're not ideal. This is where a pair of culottes or a wide legged pant can fill the gap.

For a relaxed date night at a nearby bar, i'm wearing a pair of linen culottes with a matching wrap top made by my dressmaker. The mustard colour linen fabric is from @thefabricstore. Mustard yellow is a key colour for this Autumn and Winter and suits both most complexions. It looks great with classic tones like navy and of course black, white and nude tone shoes. These nude loafers are from Milu in James St.

2. Date Night| 5 Star Restaurant

If you are planning on going somewhere up-market for dinner, you can't go past a red dress. A classic red dress is like the LBD. It is a staple piece that will suit almost every occasion depending on the styling. I've chosen another linen piece because it’s so luxurious to wear. Made by my dressmaker with fabric from Spotlight, this high waisted style dress is making a huge comeback this season.

To jazz up a red dress, opt for black or metallic accessories in gold or silver and don't be scared to throw in another colour e.g like thIs gorgeous green clutch / cross over I’m wearing from Milu.

3. Date Night | Picnic At Sunset

If fancy restaurants aren't your thing why not celebrate Valentine's /Galentine's Day at a scenic location to catch the sunset, city lights or stars.  For this date night, I've picked the ultra simple but super stylish "French Rivera look". Integrate a bit of white, red/navy and denim and the outfit is nearly complete. Add a boater hat, scarf, white sneakers or a pair of espadrilles and hello! You'll be channeling your inner Bridget Bardot.

My cut off denim shorts are from @Assembylabel  and the broderie anglaise cotton top is another creation by my dressmaker. the fabric is from The Fabric Store and the vintage boater hat is from @DreamVintage4005 . I've also brought along my red wool wrap from @MerinoCountry for any unexpected weather changes or mozzies. The white Superega platform espadrilles complete the look and are available from Milu in James St, in a huge variety of colours. last but not least, The earrings are from a super talented local designer @concretejellyfish. Their unique creations can transform any old outfit into a new one.

Voila! There you have it, my 3-date night looks for 3 kinds of dates. These looks don't just aim to provide some inspiration for Valentine's /Galentines Day, but for any future date nights.
Please share your date night looks with me by mentioning @sustainablestyling and tagging #sustainablestyling. Happy Valentine's| galentine's Day and don’t forget you don’t need a significant other to make you happy!
